Jarin All!

This is based on Gerard Winstanley's Levellers and Diggers. Winstanley, an early English rebel, founded the Levellers shortly after the Civil War (the English one). His politics might be classed today as a kind of primitive communism - he believed in equal rights for all (except priests and lawyers, both of whom he detested), common ownership of property, and the abolition of prisons and the death penalty (except for priests and lawyers, for whom he thought death a fitting punishment). These views led him into conflict with Cromwell's Protectorate, and both the Levellers and their spin-offs, the Diggers, were victimised by the Government. More on Winstanley - one of history's most colourful characters - can be found in Christopher Hill's book The World Turned Upside Down: Radical Ideas During The English Revolution. Jarin All! - score

You noble Jarin all, stand up now, stand up now.
You noble Jarin all, stand up now.
Your freedom to regain, put Ivinians to shame
Our rights we will proclaim and they shall bear the blame
Stand up now, Jarin all.

Your houses they pull down, stand up now, stand up now.
Your houses they pull down, stand up now.
Your houses they pull down, in every Jarin town.
But they too must come down and we shall wear the crown.
Stand up now, Jarin all.

Oppression is their law, stand up now, stand up now.
Oppression is their law, stand up now.
Since tyranny came in they count it now no sin
To make a dungeon grim to keep the Jarin in.
Stand up now, Jarin all.

Ivinians are all around, stand up now, stand up now.
Ivinians are all around, stand up now.
Ivinians are all around, on each side they are found.
Their greed they do compound to cheat us of our ground.
Stand up now, Jarin all.

The taxes they will have, stand up now, stand up now.
The taxes they will have, stand up now.
The taxes they will have but always more do crave
And this they think is brave, to make Jara their slave.
Stand up now, Jarin all.

The Ivinians are foes, stand up now, stand up now.
The Ivinians are foes, stand up now.
The Ivinians are foes and them we will depose
By the twanging of our bows, and leave them to the crows.
Stand up now, Jarin all.
